The Hideaway is a great neighborhood Tribeca Bar that serves up delicious cold beers on tap, pours some good wines and cooks up solid pub fare. What makes it even more special is that on Sunday and Monday nights in the summer, the Hideaway hosts Maryland Blue Crab nights where the menu is slightly adjusted and you feast on crabs with all the proper accoutrements — a mallet (very cathartic if you have anger issues), a cracker (we’ll pretend that’s what it is called), a container of Old Bay seasoning (there is plenty on the crabs, but you can wile out), and a roll of paper towels (trust me, you will need it).
I went with a few friends and we pigged out (crabbed out?) on some sides and of course an order of crabs. The process of getting the meat out is a bit tedious and I’d like to say worthwhile, but that depends on how patient you are as a person. It’s definitely fun though and the food is delicious!
Corn on the Cob
Summer staple. Nuff said. If you want a grilled corn recipe suggestion, try this Elote.
Tangy Coleslaw with Homemade Vinaigrette
Spicy Peel and Eat Shrimp
This is a good intro to build your confidence up: peeling the shrimp is a LOT easier than de-meating the crab
