Garlic Bread

As I was cooking the Leek Tops Mac & Cheese, I wanted to try making my own garlic bread to serve with it.  Natalya has made garlic bread in the past, usually just combining crushed garlic with olive oil on bread.  I decided to fatten it up a bit with some butter and herbs because, well, fattiness is delicious!

Also try serving with some other Italian pastas: Spaghetti and Meatballs, Spaghetti alla Puttanesca, and Shrimp Scampi with Linguine.

Garlic Bread

Yields: 8 servings

Ingredients:

  • 1 loaf crusty bread, split
  • 4 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 3 T butter, softened
  • 3 T olive oil
  • 1 tsp dried herb mix (Herbs de Provence, Italian, or whatever dry aromatics you have)
  • 3 T Parmesan cheese, grated
  • Cayenne pepper to taste

Directions:

Preheat oven to 300° F.

In a small bowl, mix butter, olive oil, garlic, and dried herbs.

Brush each half of the bread with the garlic butter mixture.  Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and cayenne pepper.

Place bread halves, crusts down, on a medium baking sheet.  Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the edges are very lightly browned.  Cut into individual slices and serve immediately.

Enjoy with some Leek Tops Mac & Cheese!
